The Complete Hulu Streaming Guide

Everything you need to know about Hulu — from creating your account and understanding the Disney Bundle login, to resolving error codes like P-DEV320 and getting Hulu Live TV streaming smoothly.

Getting Started with Hulu

New to Hulu or logging in on a new device? Here's how to create your account, sign in, and set up your profile — including the Disney Bundle nuances that trip people up.

How to Create a Hulu Account

  1. Go to hulu.com and click Start Your Free Trial or Get Hulu.
  2. Enter your email address and choose a password.
  3. Select your plan (Hulu, Hulu + Live TV, or a Disney Bundle option) and provide billing information.
  4. Disney Bundle subscribers: your Hulu account is linked to your Disney account — use your Disney email and password to sign into Hulu going forward.

Signing In on Any Device

iPhone or Android

Download the Hulu app, open it, and tap Log In. Enter your Hulu email and password. If you subscribed through the Disney Bundle, tap Log In with Disney+ and use your Disney account credentials instead.

PC or Mac browser

Go to hulu.com and click Log In in the top-right corner. If the button doesn't respond, disable browser extensions (especially ad blockers) and make sure cookies are enabled for hulu.com.

Smart TV or streaming device

Open the Hulu app, select Log In, then choose Activate on a computer. An activation code appears on your TV screen. On your phone or computer, go to activate.hulu.com, sign in, and enter the code. Your TV signs in automatically within seconds.

Forgot Your Password?

  1. Go to hulu.com/forgot-password and enter your account email.
  2. Check your inbox — and spam folder — for a password reset link from Hulu.
  3. Click the link and create a new password. The link expires after a short time.
  4. Disney Bundle users: reset your password through your Disney account at disneyaccount.disney.com, not at hulu.com — the two accounts share the same credentials.

Managing Profiles

Hulu supports up to 6 profiles per account. From the profile selection screen, click Add Profile, enter a name, and optionally enable Kids mode to restrict content. To add a PIN: go to Account → Privacy and Settings → Profile Lock and set a 4-digit PIN.

Hulu Error Codes, Explained

Hulu's error codes point to specific problems with your device, network, account, or location. Here's what the most common ones mean and how to address them.

Error P-DEV320 — Playback device issue

P-DEV320 appears when Hulu can't communicate with your device properly. It's most common on streaming sticks and smart TVs and usually resolves with a clean restart.

  1. Force close the Hulu app entirely, then reopen it.
  2. Unplug your streaming device from power for 60 seconds, then reconnect.
  3. Check for a Hulu app update and install it if one is available.
  4. If the error persists, uninstall and reinstall the Hulu app for a clean installation.

Error Code 3 — Account or login problem

Error 3 usually indicates a mismatch between your account credentials and what Hulu expects — often caused by a recently changed password or a cached login token.

  1. Sign out of Hulu on the affected device, then sign back in.
  2. Verify your email and password by signing in at hulu.com in a browser first.
  3. Clear the app's cached data in your device settings before signing back in.
  4. If your password isn't working, reset it at hulu.com/forgot-password (or disneyaccount.disney.com for Bundle subscribers).

Live TV Buffering — Connection too slow for live streams

Hulu Live TV requires a consistently faster connection than on-demand streaming — at least 8 Mbps for a single HD stream. Buffering is nearly always a network issue.

  1. Run a speed test at fast.com. You need at least 8 Mbps for Live TV in HD.
  2. Restart your modem and router by unplugging them from power for 30 seconds.
  3. Move your device closer to the router, or connect via Ethernet for the most stable stream.
  4. Disconnect other devices that are streaming or downloading on the same network to free up bandwidth.

Location Error — Home network not verified

Hulu Live TV requires you to register a home network and check in from it regularly. If you get a location error, your home network needs to be set or re-verified.

  1. Connect your device to your home Wi-Fi and open Hulu — this registers your home network automatically.
  2. For Live TV on mobile, you must open Hulu from home at least once every 30 days.
  3. In Hulu account settings, go to Privacy & Settings to view and update your home network.
  4. Disable any VPN service — Hulu detects VPNs as out-of-region access and blocks Live TV.

Error RUNUNK13 — Unknown playback failure

RUNUNK13 is Hulu's generic unknown playback error. It appears when the app hits an unrecognised problem during streaming — most often a temporary network hiccup or stale app state.

  1. Force close the Hulu app completely and reopen it.
  2. Unplug your streaming device from power for 60 seconds, then restart.
  3. Run a speed test at fast.com — you need at least 3 Mbps for SD or 6 Mbps for HD.
  4. Clear the Hulu app cache in your device settings, then try playing again.
  5. If the error persists, uninstall and reinstall Hulu for a clean copy.

Error BYA-403-011 — Subscription or billing problem

BYA-403-011 means Hulu denied access to your account — typically because the subscription is inactive, a payment failed, or the account is in a grace period after a declined charge.

  1. Sign in at hulu.com in a browser and go to Account → Subscription to check the status.
  2. If payment failed, update your payment method under Account → Billing.
  3. Disney Bundle subscribers: check your subscription status at disneyplus.com, not hulu.com, as billing is managed there.
  4. If you subscribed through Apple, Roku, or Amazon, verify the subscription is active in that platform's settings.

Error DRMCDM33 — DRM / Widevine playback failure

DRMCDM33 is a DRM (Widevine) error that appears on Android devices, Chromebooks, and Chrome browsers when the content protection component is outdated or corrupted.

  1. Update the Hulu app and the operating system — Widevine is bundled with OS and browser updates.
  2. On Chrome: go to chrome://components, find Widevine Content Decryption Module, and click Check for update.
  3. Clear the browser or app cache, then reload Hulu.
  4. Disable any VPN or proxy service, as DRM verification requires an accurate location.
  5. On Android TV or Chromecast, a factory reset of the device is the last resort if other steps fail.

App Crashes — Hulu closes or freezes unexpectedly

If the Hulu app keeps closing or freezes on the loading screen, stale cached data or an outdated app version is usually the cause.

  1. Unplug your streaming device or TV from power for 60 seconds.
  2. Clear the Hulu app cache in your device's app settings.
  3. Update the Hulu app to the latest version from your app store.
  4. If crashes continue, uninstall and reinstall the Hulu app.

Login Issues — Can't sign in or email not recognized

If you can't sign in and the error says your email isn't recognized, you may be using the wrong login method — especially common for Disney Bundle subscribers.

  1. Double-check your email for typos by trying to sign in at hulu.com in a browser first.
  2. If you signed up through the Disney Bundle, use the Log In with Disney+ button and your Disney account credentials.
  3. Use Forgot Password and check your spam folder for the reset email.
  4. Clear the app's stored data before trying to sign in again.
